Book cover

Book cover illustration for "The Prince of neither here nor there" by Sean Cullen (Penguin). The brief called for the focus to be on the medallion so I played around with the lighting, such that the fairies are illuminated just enough to stand out against the dark background. I did this a while back but the book was only just published recently.

Looking back...

Sharing a page from my comic book published in 1996... the publisher hasn't been able to locate all my originals which were about 200 pages. All I have are A4 photocopies and a bunch of low res scan... :P (再回首恍然如梦, 再回首 我心依旧) Time to move on!!

A first attempt at linocut print. With colours added in photoshop.
Anyone tried this before?

Coffeeshop-Talk Uncles

Sunday -- church, food, coffee, chill out and sketchy day. We spent the entire day out, attending church, having lunch with great pals,
shopping and then finally coffee at Shaw Tower. We decided to chill out from the crowd in Suntec City, so besides surfing the Internet, I sketched the coffeeshop-talk-uncles sitting in front of us.

more links

And here are some links with some very inspiring works.

Firstly, Joao Ruas. He is the one that took over drawing Fables covers from James Jean. I'll leave it to you guys to see what's similar and what's different in their drawing styles. Also check out his blog.

Secondly, Jun Tsunoda. You'd probably classify her work as fine art. But I'm sure there are lots we illustrators can learn from her use colours, balance and shapes. From giving it a try, I think abstract paintings aren't as easy to create as they look.

Sketches from the sketchwalk

Tia, Don, Kat, Seiji and me explored the kranji factories. There were scrapped cars, engines, cranes and a road littered with splattered eggs fallen from a truck. Here are some sketches from this morning's sketchwalk. (ballpoint, ink and some photoshop colour adjustments)
