Book cover illustration for "The Prince of neither here nor there" by Sean Cullen (Penguin). The brief called for the focus to be on the medallion so I played around with the lighting, such that the fairies are illuminated just enough to stand out against the dark background. I did this a while back but the book was only just published recently.

cool. i think ive seen this in the bookstores. why do the fairies look like teenagers? what kind of fairies are they?
This look great. I enjoy the details and the realism.
drew: Really, where? I haven't got a copy yet. The fairies were described to me as modern day "dark faeries", with a bit of punk rock fashion sense. And yeah they're supposed to look youthful.
momo: Thanks! I had a comfortable timeframe to work within.
Looks awesome man! I think you did a great job overall. It's also nice to see how your style is applied outside of the ad industry heh :D
Yea this cover looks familiar to me too...
