Fables covers

This new book by James Jean is totally worth getting for anyone wanting to study layout, concepts and illustration techniques. Or if you just like looking at nice pictures. It features the amazing cover artworks he's done for the Fables comic series and also his behind-the-scenes sketches as well as alternative layouts. It's out at Kinokuniya now.

City of Dust

Less on the substance/content, more on the flashy side this time. I am finally allowed to post this online. Here are the covers I did for City of Dust #1 and #2 with Steve Niles. The first one is an homage to the old Exorcist film poster.

Weekly 15 Minute Portraits

Before "The Chairman" gets on my case for not posting on this blog, here's something i did when my iMac crashed. While my replacement laptop occasionally made spinning "rainbow connection" when handling heavy Photoshop files. I will doodle to make the agony a little easier. All portraits are done under 15 minutes, and with no touch ups. You can view more drawings HERE.

If Photoshop were real...

Original post from http://drawn.ca
When I first saw Motherboard Cake (I made one and you may see it on my blog), I was like LOL. How creative and ingenious can one get? Then I saw this "real" photoshop and I was ROFL at how people can go all the way out to make something so, so innovative and yet fun. DRAW ME: Herd Mentality

Herd mentality
[From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia]

Herd mentality describes how people are influenced by their peers to adopt certain behaviors, follow trends, and/or purchase items. Examples of the herd mentality include the early adopters of high technology products such as cell phones and iPods, as well as stock market trends, fashions in apparel, cars, home décor, etc. Social psychologists study the related topics of group intelligence, crowd wisdom, and decentralized decision making. People in these herds are broken up into two groups, explains Friedrich Nietzsche, a philosopher who coined the phrase. One lended itself to the religious points of views- their beliefs and how those dictated their actions- while the other lended itself to influence by the media- more liberal and based upon what others perceive as 'right' (following trends, social norms, etc.).

I think we see ourselves in some way belonging to a herd. Like Illustration Friday, I am posting this so we could illustrate and interpret it with our doodles and illustrations. Only when you feel like doing so.
