Fairy illustrations
Fairy illustrations for Wedding and Travel magazine's jewellery section. Pencil, inkwash and photoshop. I guess you could describe it as a combination of Amano and Tim Sale's drawing techniques. The brief was to create interesting scenes to showcase various sets of jewellery. And they all form a story. I think the client did a great job choosing to print on wood-free paper and spot varnishing the jewels. Client: Fullhouse Communications.
my bookshelf
Crammed with graphic novels, books and artbooks. It collapsed once. Terribly messy but somehow a piece of art. Pencil+markers+ink on paper and photoshop.

Figure Drawing
During lessons (each 3 hrs with about 45mins for break) we typically vary between 3-5min, 20 min, 1hr, 3hr, 6 hr (same pose for 2 weeks).
These are some of the quick gestural drawings with 3-5 minute poses. Usually size of drawing is between A3-A2, or A2-A1.

Large Drawing
One of the projects from school, where we're supposed to have a large piece of artwork in the end. I went around the city sketching in my sketchbook, before redrawing/enlarging and linking the original sketches to form the large drawing.

The Peranakan Ball 2008
Remember Last year's Peranakan Ball Illustration? This year's theme is Victorian... yea, not exactly spot-on Victorian, i know lol
SKUMMI
Hi all, I am the new kid on the block and would like to introduce myself. I will just pretend Im at a party with a cocktail in hand and half drunk.
My name is Kum Weng, Im 22 this year, male, currently in school of visual arts finishing my BFA in illustration. Its been a great experience and I get really cool teachers like Tomer Hanuka, Yuko Shimizu and Marcos Chin, just the little fanboy in me gets excited. But its really hard and its my last year so its kinda stressful!
I just uploaded my website at skummi.com, so feel free to check it out. I really don't know what style Im doing but I love doing drawings in ink and ball point pen. As for painting, I love people like Manet, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Van Gogh and much much more... so that is what I am playing around with now. It really doesn't pay off in my illustration cuz people always say they don't know what Im trying to get at in my paintings. But I feel like I owe it to myself to keep practicing what I wanna do.
So I always appreciate all kinds of feedback. I never knew illustrators existed in Singapore cuz i rarely see illustrations, so I am glad Andrew found me. If you want to just contact me via email and tell me how you get started and whether its a viable profession in Singapore it will make me very happy.
Heres a painting of the Gap at fifth Ave.
