While there's time

cover done for Karl Maka's first demo

unfolded to poster

While there’s time

Walk with me
Let’s take a walk
To the reservoir
And get reacquainted

Too much
Has gone by
And now I realize
I’ve taken things
For granted

For too long

It hurts to see
What’s happening to you
Is it too late?
Is it too late?

Because time
Isn’t on our side
Its running out
Losing more of you
Every single day
I feel you slipping
Further and further away
Losing more of you
Every single day
I feel you slipping
Further and further away

So walk with me
Let’s take a walk
To the beach today
And have a picnic

Let’s sit and chat
And say what we have
In our hearts
And on our minds

Can I say?
Stay with me just a little longer
Stay with me just a little longer
---------------------------------

ummm... hope you guys like it...('u')

Batman Version 1.2

Inspired by Drewscape and AG.
Yes, a very misunderstood hero with no special powers.
This is batman being stood up...(again?)

batman ver 1.1

-> inspired by drewscape's crazy batman-on-acid post. :P

he might just be the most misunderstood superhero ever.

OIC INTERVIEW #2 : ANDY YANG

Where did you get your training? And what made you want to do illustrations full-time?
Was trained in graphic design at this old art school by the name of Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA) about 14 years ago. It was so old school that what they taught there had more fine art subjects than graphic design. Well, after being in a visualiser, visual merchandiser to design executive I found out I can't take the 9 to 5 job torture no more. So.... here i am.

What's your dream illustration project?
Actually kinda just completed it. The no no nonsense, no ego trip, raw and free flow collaboration with Mike. kaka. For now.

In your opinion, what steps should one take to become a great illustrator?
Not really sure because I am still striving to be one. Based on observation, most of the great minds were open to criticism, egos aside and learn like a child everyday. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. They open new doors.

Which great artists do you learn from? And what can you learn from each?
Picasso, he is known to party hard and work hard as well in his time.

Which illustration style/medium are you currently obsessed with? And why?

The combination of the liquitex soft body and super heavy body acrylic. The diluted soft body acrylic creates a watercolour type ambience that never fails to amaze me. Together with the super heavy body acrylic sculpted with palette knives it makes the painting have it's own dimension. Damn. hope this makes sense.

Share one of you oldest and...

...newest drawings you are proud of.

Share an andy yang tip or illustration technique we could learn from.
Learn like a child. Don't be afraid to ask.

Show us your studio.

I'll take you somewhere warmer

The bear's taking the fish out of the freezing waters and placing it somewhere warmer. So that it doesnt freeze up. And no, my bear's not into eating the fish cause it's a herbivore.

Hope it's a little warmer at your side

SHOPHOUSE SKETCH

(click on image for a detail view)

Just sketching with 0.18 technical pen.
Combining the weird and acute of different angles to form an unlikely street scene.
(to heck with politically correct perspective!)

The McDonald's at Yew Tee MRT station at night. Pen on paper. Colour overlayed in photoshop.

I almost never draw superheroes. But with so many drawing style versions of batman around, I decided to draw my own version. It's a more snarly version. It's closer to the Paul Pope's batman year 100 one. Snarly versions are more fun to draw. Pen on paper. Colours and halftone added in photoshop.

((:

Indeed, Regina is so full of hope. Reading her story warms my heart. You can read about her here.

PS: I like how the little rabbit turned out though. Haha.. Been practising drawing rabbits for some time already.

Some outdoor sketches

These are just some sketches I did while I was at St Augustine City on the way back from Florida back to Savannah....

Design as a Cultural Artefact

All are welcome. See you there!

The Lady Riding Hat

I suppose this can be considered a sequal to The Pillbox Hat Girl. Comes in a set of 3, last one coming right up. ;)

On an unrelated note, I've uploaded the Tekkon Kinkreet OST ( REMOVED BY ADMIN- COPYRIGHT LAH ) I think the link will only last a couple of days, so go get it while you can. I thought Paprika was already amazing, but Tk totally blew me away.

Nice Quote

"Do not fail, as you go on, to draw something every day, for no matter how little it is it will be well worthwhile, and it will do you a world of good."

facebook is scary.

hi, my name is ag. i'm addicted to facebook.

first try

second try

third try, paid more attention to the tone thing that drewscape is talking about + line color. not very good at portraying the feeling of depth though, strawberry looks like it's stuck on his face. :/ (help?)

fourth attempt. everything starts going haywire. @_@

it's amazing that i have photoshop, and i never explored how to use the functions/colors properly. but this graffiti wall thing can hook me into drawing and experimenting with colors. so fun!!!

drawn with tablet + superwall!

okay. off to poke somebody and throw some sheep. :P
